RWYB (Run What Ya Brung)

Have you ever dreamed of going flat out in your car without fear of running over children or getting a kicking from the police? Well, there’s no better place in the UK than at Santa Pod Raceway, so get your car out on the famous ¼ mile in a safe and legal environment!

£20 gets you unlimited runs on the track, and there’s a full performance print out for each run (collect them from the sign-on office after your run).

We are logging all the runs from the day and we’ve got trophies for the fastest in each class.

Classes:

A - 4 cylinder
B - 6 cylinder
C - 8 or more cylinders
D - Bikes
E - Non road legal (Inc Cars on Slicks

To enter the RWYB, simply enter on the day. You will need to bring your normal road driving licence to enter. Drivers of soft-top vehicles and those doing 100mph+ at the finish line will need a crash helmet.

Track Rules:

  • A full valid recognised driving licence is required to sign-on.
  • Seat belt is mandatory for your own safety
  • Helmets required for open top cars and vehicles doing 110 mph or more at the finish line. Arm straps may be required in open-top cars.

Signing on Procedure:

Remember your driving licence and cash for signing on.

  1. Walk over to the signing on office at the base of the tower.
  2. Present your driving licence and signing on fee to the staff in the signing on office.
  3. Collect your wristband, vehicle movement pass, and your race number window sticker.
  4. You may now move your vehicle over to the fire-up lane to join the back of the RWYB queue.
  5. You will need to clearly display your race number sticker on your rear windscreen - without this you won't be eligible for any race category.
  6. You can keep an eye on your race class performance by checking the updated information board near the signing-on office. All winners must report to the start line for the prizegiving at 5pm Sunday.

On Track Procedure:

If you haven't done RWYB before, here's what you have to do:

  1. Attempt a burnout in the water patch under the tower when the start line is clear of the previous pairing. How you do this will depend on whether your car is front or rear wheel drive. This will help warm and clean your tyres. Don't attempt to burn out in 4WD cars unless you know what you are doing. something will break!
  2. Roll up to the start line slowly when the starter beckons you forward. Try and stay roughly level with your opponent.
  3. As your front wheels reach the start line, a pair of orange bulbs will light on your side of the starting "tree" This means you are "pre-staged" and you are just inches away from being in the right position.
  4. Roll forward a fraction more, and another pair of orange bulbs will light below the first pair. This means that you are in the right starting position.
  5. When both you and your opponent have all staging lights lit, you are ready to go, so lift you engine revs, and get ready to drop the clutch.the starting tree lights will flash orange and then immediately green. Now is the time to GO! GO! GO!
  6. Don't worry if you mess it up- the starting official will help you do the right thing. keep an eye on him for direction.
  7. You can collect your timing slip from the signing on office. There is no charge for collecting your print-outs.
  8. Once you have completed your runs, please return to your campsite or parking spot.

Car Preparation & Safety:

  • Check tyre pressures and tyre condition
  • Check oil level
  • Check coolant level
  • Check brakes are working properly
  • Warm engine up to the "normal" temperature, usually 70-100 degrees C.
  • Check exhaust for smoke:
    • White smoke is steam, and indicates a cold engine, but no problems
    • Blue smoke is burning oil and indicates engine problems
    • Black smoke is carbon soot, and indicates the engine is running rich. Adjust carbs and clean air filter.
