BMW SHOW 2009 Report
Sunday 20th September at Santa Pod Raceway

The 2009 BMW Show has now been and gone, view photos in the BMW Show 2009 Gallery and read the report below.

RWYB Show & Shine Trade Drifting

The 4th BMW Show at Santa Pod Raceway took place on Sunday the 20th September 2009, and it was hailed as a massive success. With superb warm weather, thousands of the best BMWs from across Europe and loads of ways to take part in the show, it was always going to be good, but in retrospect, the show exceeded all expectations.

BMW fans descended on Santa Pod from across Europe, making this the most international show on the calendar apart from the European race meetings. Number-plates from Belgium, Holland, Latvia, Poland, Ireland, Germany, Luxembourg, France and Great Britain were spotted, and it all added up to a great atmosphere.

The Run What Ya Brung competition kicked off almost straight away, and some very competitive times were set across all classes. There were many interesting monster-power engines in the competition – just take a look at the winners details below to see what sort of weaponry was out on track!

Also out on track were thundering nitro dragsters ad bikes, and the amazing Frireforce Jet Car, on hand to show the spectators what a 5-second run looks and sounds like!

For those who wanted to try out their car on a few corners, the handling track was kept busy with two packed sessions. Cones went flying, handbrakes were tested to the limit, and BMWs were driven without mercy to clock the fastest times. A big thanks to everyone who took part, it was very amusing to watch! But congratulations go out to Christian Osbourne who hustled his 335 do a stunning time, just a fraction of a second quicker than second place. The full leaderboard is on the Handling Page.

Next to the handling track was the drift track, which was smokin’ all day long with BMWs and a few guest Japanese cars. The demos were just for show, but it was great to see some of the best BMW drifters on the scene brought together for one event, and they certainly faired better than some of the Jap cars that ended up in the barriers! Thanks to everyone who took part, you put on a great show.

Over in the show car paddock, loads of clean and tidy BMWs lined up to be in with a chance of winning the Show & Shine awards. With just three awards and about 50 cars to judge, the task was always going to be tough, but the following cars took home the awards.

Show & Shine

Best of Show Best of Show

Shane Moriarty – Best Of Show
1981 Alpina C1 2.3

A stunning restoration with lots of original features and amazing attention to detail.

Best Custom   Best Custom

Derijck Gert - Best Custom
BMW E90

Loads of subtle custom touches all added up to make an imposing and well proportioned car.

Best Original   spacer

Mark & Taylor Willis – Best Original
1998 BMW M3

A stunningly clean car in almost showroom condition. No-one would believe this car was over 11 years old!

With so many mild custom cars in the show, it was difficult to pick winners for the trophies, and it’s worth noting that many excellent cars were sadly overlooked because they neither fell into the custom or standard categories. With this in mind, 2010 trophies are likely to reflect this.

Also around site were thousands of brilliant club cars, and special thanks go out to everyone who supported the show. We hope you had a great time!

The dyno was kept busy at the show, with a top readout of 575bhp for the day, showing that BMWs can really pack a punch, and traders had plenty of parts and accessories on show for those with money burning a hole in their pocket.

All in all, another great weekend at the Pod! We hope you had a great time and look forward to seeing you back at the Pod soon. Check out www.santapod.com for other shows and Run What Ya Brung events throughout the year.
