BMW Show 2017 Report
You assembled in your thousands to Santa Pod Raceway’s action-packed BMW Show; back with a prime-time summer date, the weather didn’t let us down with glorious sunshine over the weekend! This year was bigger and better than ever with a line-up packed full of electrifying and exhilarating entertainment both on and off the track for all you bimmer enthusiasts. Showcasing some of the finest germen machinery in the UK, we hope you enjoyed your weekend celebrating all things BMW!
Fighting off some tough opponents and putting those driving skills of speed and precision to the ultimate test, the first trophy of the day went to Alex Gassman; winner of the Handling Track Competition, completing the circuit in an impressive 22.65 seconds in his BMW M3 E3I. Well done Alex! Runner up, Ashley Leggett, came a close second with a time of 23.80 seconds.
Putting on a sideways driving, tyre smoking, rubber burning extravaganza, the Drift Arenas were jam-packed all day long! As masters of precision and power, we witnessed german engineering in action in both the DWYB and Drift Passenger Rides.
The Show Paddock hosted the Autoglym Show & Shine competition. With a vibrant and varied congregation of immaculate BMWs, it was a very tough decision process for the judges with some very high-spec vehicles on display. However, after many turns around the paddock, I’m sure you’ll agree, the winners were as follows:
Best of Show
Ashley Scott – Red 1982 E30 – M3 Bodykit, Alpina Alloys and Triple Weber Carbs. Overall immaculate!
Lala Miah – Silver 1989 E24 635 CSI Highline – Airlift suspension, Custom retrim. Shark Gills Evo front and rear spoilers.
Top Five
Anthony Wilson – Sakhir Orange 2015 M4 F83 – Custom carbon rear spoiler, engine covers and induction kit.

We welcomed Elizabeth de Latour, Editor of Performance BMW Magazine, our guest judge for the competition; Elizabeth was very impressed with the quality and quantity of all the cars in the Show Paddock (and on site!) so a big well done to all who entered!
As one of the biggest BMW car club displays in the UK, we would like to say a big thank you to all the clubs for their continued support each year - we marveled at the pristine machinery on display – see you next year!
Over on the Live Stage, DJ Craig ‘Cut Up’ Jones provided us with the perfect soundtrack for BMW Show, with performances from beatboxer BeatFox and the incredible fire breathing dancers, Infin8. The Live Action Arena played host to a mind-blowing performance from top freestyle motorcycle stunt rider and British Stunt Bike Champion, Lee Bowers as he wowed the crowds with his jaw-dropping motorbike stunts.
RWYB took centre stage seeing a flock of Bavarian beauties hit the track with some very impressive ET’s. The results of the RWYB competition were as follows:
The track was busy all weekend with high octane, show-stopping racing. We witnessed Drag Demos a plenty including Rod Harrison in his Top Methanol Dragster who ran a personal best on Sunday with 5.6307 @ 250.54mph! Well done Rod!
Tearing up the raceway, we saw Martin Hill’s Fireforce 5 Jet Dragster run at a breath-taking 5.5240 @ 268.17mph on Saturday evening! Sunday saw him pilot his Jet Funny Car, FireForce 3 with yet again a ground-shaking run of 5.8348 @ 276.33mph!
We would like to thank everyone who attended BMW Show 2017 and from all the Santa Pod team, we hope you had a great day! See you next year!
